9:30 Club Honors Alex Ovechkin’s 930th NHL Goal with Lifetime Golden Ticket

Alex Ovechkin’s march through the NHL record book reached another memorable stop Sunday, and Washington’s 9:30 Club made sure the moment came with a hometown encore.

Ovechkin scored the 930th goal of his NHL career, adding another marker to a total that already stands as the league’s all-time best. After the game, the Capitals captain was presented with a golden ticket granting him lifetime admission to shows at the famed Washington, D.C., music venue.

9:30 Club owners Sam and Seth Hurwitz joined Ovechkin along with Capitals owners Lynn and Ted Leonsis for the presentation. The club also celebrated the milestone online, saluting Ovechkin’s arrival at 930 career goals.

The venue’s name made the tribute a natural fit. Open since 1980, the 9:30 Club has become one of Washington’s signature live-music rooms and was named among America’s 10 best concert venues by Rolling Stone in 2018. Its stage has hosted acts including Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chili Peppers and O.A.R.

For Ovechkin, the reward was another distinctly D.C. salute after a career spent turning goal scoring into a local event. Goal No. 930 now comes with a permanent place on the guest list.
