Al Nassr return to Al-Awwal Park needing an immediate response in the AFC Champions League, with Ange Postecoglou’s side still without a point after the opening round and Neftchi arriving in Riyadh with an early advantage in the race for the western section.
A second-round test in Riyadh
The meeting is part of matchday two of the 2026/27 AFC Champions League. Al Nassr were beaten in their first continental fixture, leaving Postecoglou’s team at the foot of the West table before this home assignment.
Neftchi come with a more encouraging start behind them. The Uzbek side are second in their domestic championship and are among the teams to have won their first match in this season’s AFC Champions League.
- Venue: Al-Awwal Park, Riyadh.
- Capacity: 25,000.
- Competition: AFC Champions League, 2026/27.
- Round: Matchday two.
- Al Nassr: seeking their first victory in the competition.
- Neftchi: looking to follow their opening continental win with a result away from home.
Postecoglou has selected his starting side for the night, while Neftchi coach Ismoilov has also named his team for the contest.
Ronaldo carries a personal target into the tie
Cristiano Ronaldo led Al Nassr’s arrival at the stadium, carrying both the club’s need for points and an individual milestone that remains firmly in view. The Portuguese forward has scored 980 goals during his career and is pursuing the 1,000-goal mark.
He comes into the match after scoring against Al Diriyah in the league following the international break, a strike that answered criticism after his difficult exit from Portugal’s training camp and lifted the mood around Al Nassr.
Portugal disciplinary case remains in the background
Ronaldo’s continental return comes while the Portuguese Football Federation considers a disciplinary matter involving the forward. Proceedings were opened only days ago, with a possible sanction still to be determined.
For Al Nassr, however, the priority is the immediate continental picture. Postecoglou’s side require Ronaldo and the wider squad at their best if they are to avoid another setback in a group campaign that has already begun with pressure on the Saudi club.
