Alexander Isak Fires Liverpool Past Bournemouth in 1-0 Premier League Win

Bournemouth’s wait for a first Premier League win goes on after Liverpool left the south coast with a 1-0 victory, settled by Alexander Isak after the interval. It was a restrained afternoon rather than a romp, but Liverpool found the one clean moment that mattered while Bournemouth were left with another narrow defeat to carry into the week.

Why it landed this week

  • Bournemouth
  • Liverpool
  • Andoni Iraola
  • Alexander Isak
  • Cody Gakpo
  • Ronald Araujo
  • Jacquet
  • Víctor Muñoz

Iraola was back at a former home and received warmly, yet the occasion did not bring the result Bournemouth needed. The hosts had enjoyed slightly more of the early control in a contest short on attacking invention, with both sides finding the first half a tight and scrappy affair.

Liverpool’s breakthrough arrived in the second half. Gakpo, operating on the right before Víctor Muñoz was introduced, supplied an inviting ball into the area for Isak. The forward made the opening count, taking his tally to four goals from six appearances this season.

Liverpool’s back line holds firm

The visitors’ defence supplied much of their best work. Ronald Araujo performed strongly at right-back, while Jacquet, the French recruit who arrived from Ligue 1, also impressed as Liverpool protected their slender advantage.

Muñoz, formerly of Osasuna, came on late and made a useful contribution when Liverpool needed to keep possession and take some of the pace out of the closing stages. Bournemouth pressed for a way back, but Liverpool’s control without the ball ensured Isak’s finish was enough.
