Alidu Seidu’s Rennes chapter is set to pause under the lights of the Côte d’Azur. The 26-year-old Ghana defender is expected in Nice on Thursday night, with the Gym working against the clock to have him available for Lille’s visit on Sunday.
Alidu Seidu set for Nice loan
Seidu will join Nice from Rennes on a loan running until the end of the season, with no purchase option included in the agreement.
The initial discussions had considered a loan with an option to buy, but Rennes, Nice and the player did not reach a deal on that clause. Nice will therefore take the defender on a straight temporary move.
Administrative approval from Ineos delayed the final steps of the transfer for several days. That clearance has now been given, allowing Seidu to travel south on Thursday evening. His medical examination is scheduled for Friday.
The move
Nice hope to complete the signing by Friday afternoon. The club must meet the required 48-hour registration period if Seidu is to be eligible for Sunday’s Ligue 1 fixture against Lille, which kicks off at 17:15.
The defender was still part of Rennes’ squad on Wednesday for the Europa League trip to Sturm Graz, a match that ended 0-0. It was expected to be his final involvement with the Breton side before the loan.
The French season around it
Nice are seeking an immediate defensive addition for the league campaign, while Seidu leaves Rennes for at least the remainder of the season. Whether his first appearance can come against Lille will depend on the speed of the medical, contract completion and registration process.
