Allegri Plans Napoli Rotation Ahead of Venezia and Champions League Test

Napoli arrive at Venezia with little time to turn reflection into action. The calendar leaves no room for long meetings: a league trip is followed quickly by another Champions League appointment on Tuesday, and Massimiliano Allegri’s task is to preserve both the team’s standards and its energy.

The coach and the club

Allegri has asked for calm, but his message has also carried a firm edge after the episode in Villarreal. He warned that repeating such behaviour could leave Napoli badly exposed, and the reminder was not intended for Kevin De Bruyne alone.

The Belgian has become the clearest symbol of the issue, given his standing in the game and the expectations that come with his career. Allegri has spoken privately with De Bruyne in recent days, explaining his view without raising the temperature. If the midfielder begins on the bench in Venice, the decision should be understood as part of squad management rather than a wider punishment.

There is a broader responsibility within a group containing experienced figures. Matteo Politano and Giovanni Di Lorenzo are among those expected to set the tone, while Noa Lang is still trying to find consistency after coming into the side below his best physical level.

Rotation before Europe

Napoli cannot continue with the same untouchable starting XI through nine consecutive matches. With Champions League football returning so soon, Allegri is preparing to give selected regulars a break and to offer opportunities to players who can reduce the burden on the established names.

  1. Napoli travel to Venezia for the next Serie A match.
  2. The squad then prepares for Tuesday’s Champions League fixture.

Lorenzo Lucca is the leading candidate to benefit from the changes. Rasmus Hojlund has not stopped, having also been involved with his national team, and may be granted a brief pause.

De Bruyne is another player under consideration, despite missing Belgium’s most recent match. He has played every minute in Napoli’s first two games, and Allegri must weigh his importance against the demands of the coming weeks.

Scott McTominay is expected to be brought back progressively. Frank Anguissa has rejoined group training and could provide support, while Alisson Santos, recently recovered, offers another possible option between the lines. Lang also needs a steadier recovery, rather than alternating encouraging outings with difficult ones; that uneven form has inevitably raised questions over the investment made in him.

David Neres is not in ideal condition either, with his availability to be assessed in the final training session before the journey.

Patience as the season gathers weight

The demands are especially delicate for a Napoli side with almost 12 players aged over 30. Allegri’s experience of handling senior dressing rooms and elite individuals is therefore central to the club’s current phase. His assurance is not based on noise or drama, but on control: rest the players who need it, demand the right conduct from those who lead, and keep the season moving before its rhythm becomes too punishing.
