Andre Szmyt’s Late 56-Yarder Lifts Browns Over Steelers 27-24

Andre Szmyt delivered a 56-yard field goal with 10 seconds left as the Cleveland Browns beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-24 on Thursday night, extending Cleveland’s recent home success in the AFC North rivalry.

Pittsburgh had pulled even at 24-24 with 1:42 remaining when Aaron Rodgers hit a 3-yard touchdown pass and the Steelers converted the ensuing two-point attempt. The Browns answered with a late drive that put Szmyt in range for the decisive kick.

After Szmyt’s field goal split the uprights, the Steelers had one final chance to respond. Rodgers launched a desperation throw on the final possession, but Browns safety Grant Delpit intercepted it to finish the game.

Browns move to 3-1

Cleveland improved to 3-1 while Pittsburgh fell to 2-2. The Browns generated 373 total yards and their defense consistently pressured Rodgers, recording five sacks.

Cornerback Denzel Ward also intercepted Rodgers earlier in the game, giving Cleveland two takeaways in a tight divisional contest.

The victory continued a dominant stretch for the Browns at home against their longtime rival. Cleveland has now won eight of its past nine home games against Pittsburgh.
