Mirra Andreeva and Ekaterina Alexandrova set up an all-Russian China Open quarterfinal after commanding straight-set wins on Centre Court in Beijing on Tuesday.
Fourth seed Andreeva moved through first, dispatching Ukraine’s Daria Snigur 6-2, 6-2 in 1 hour and 3 minutes. Nineteenth seed Alexandrova followed with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of fifth seed Linda Noskova, last year’s Beijing runner-up, in 1 hour and 6 minutes.
Quick facts
- Andreeva beat Snigur 6-2, 6-2, breaking serve five times.
- Alexandrova did not face a service break in her 6-2, 6-2 win over Noskova.
- Andreeva owns 48 tour victories this season, behind only Jessica Pegula’s 50 and Elena Rybakina’s 49.
- Alexandrova is into her seventh WTA 1000 quarterfinal and her second of 2026.
- Alexandrova leads the head-to-head series with Andreeva 2-0.
Snigur was contesting the fourth round of a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time, but Andreeva quickly established control. The 19-year-old surrendered her serve once and converted five breaks against an opponent who struggled to contain errors.
Andreeva finished with 18 winners and 15 unforced errors. Snigur produced 17 winners but sent 32 balls astray.
The victory delivered Andreeva’s second Beijing quarterfinal. Her previous run to this stage ended against Zheng Qinwen in 2024, while this is her 11th quarterfinal appearance of the season on the WTA Tour.
“I felt that I served well today,” Andreeva said. “She is a very aggressive player, so defending strongly was going to matter. Those were the two areas I did best.”
Andreeva struck six aces, then returned to the practice courts after the match. She said the extra work had been ordered by her team rather than requested by the player.
“It was not my idea,” Andreeva said with a smile. “For the second day in a row, the team surprised me. Conchita told me we had court eight. We worked mostly on returns because I’m going to face big servers and big hitters. It was basic work to tidy up my shots and feel good after the match.”
Alexandrova was just as decisive in the following match, taking out Noskova without yielding serve. The 31-year-old reached the Beijing last eight for the first time and became the oldest player in tournament history to make her maiden China Open quarterfinal.
Only Serena Williams and Zhang Shuai were older when reaching the quarterfinals in Beijing. Alexandrova’s result also gave her a 22nd career victory over a Top 10 opponent, including a third this season.
Her quarterfinal against Andreeva carries a clear recent pattern. Alexandrova defeated the French Open champion in Stuttgart in 2025 and again at Bad Homburg in 2026.
“One thing I know is that I haven’t beaten her yet,” Andreeva said of the upcoming contest. “With Conchita, I’ll look at how I have played against her, what needs to change and what new things I can bring into the match. She is a great player, and I’m excited to try for that first win.”
