Ansu Fati Suffers Left Calf Injury in Lille Match

In Lille, Ansu Fati’s encouraging return to the season was halted almost as soon as it had begun. The 23-year-old left the field on Sunday after less than 15 minutes against Lille, appearing distressed as he received treatment for a problem in his left calf.

Quick facts

  • Ansu Fati had returned to action only two weeks earlier.
  • He played four matches after his comeback, starting two and entering as a substitute twice.
  • The forward scored two goals despite averaging about 45 minutes per appearance.
  • He was replaced by Detourbet in the match against Lille.

The former Barcelona forward sat down on the pitch after feeling discomfort, with teammate Nazinho among the first to notice that something was wrong. Fati repeatedly held the calf area of his left leg while an opponent offered him support.

Medical staff soon came on, and the Spaniard departed visibly upset. Detourbet took his place as the game continued.

It is another difficult setback for Filipe Luis, who loses a player capable of making a difference near goal. Fati had not completed any of his four recent appearances, but his two-goal return had offered a sharp reminder of the attacking quality he can bring when fit.

For now, the concern is that a comeback which had brought promise in the opening weeks will again be interrupted by injury.
