Arsenal have placed Mikel Arteta at the centre of their plans for the years ahead, handing their title-winning manager a new long-term contract on improved terms.
A long-term call from the owners
Arteta had been due to be out of contract in 2027, but Arsenal have moved early after a campaign which brought the Premier League back to north London for the first time in 22 years, alongside a runners-up finish in Europe.
The agreement is a clear show of faith from the club’s ownership, led by majority shareholder Stan Kroenke. The American businessman, whose fortune has been estimated by Forbes at around $21.3bn, has backed Arteta to continue shaping the side well into the next decade.
- Arteta arrived at Arsenal in December 2019.
- His previous contract extension was agreed in September 2024.
- The latest deal includes improved conditions and a long-term commitment.
- His entire coaching staff will remain with him under the new arrangement.
From the FA Cup to the league title
The Basque manager has steadily rebuilt Arsenal since taking over during the 2019-20 season, first delivering an FA Cup and then guiding the club through the longer work of turning promise into proper silverware.
His record in London now includes the Premier League, the FA Cup and three Community Shields, with last season’s title ending a wait that had stretched back more than two decades.
By committing again, Arteta takes another step towards the sort of longevity once associated with Arsène Wenger, who managed Arsenal from 1996 until 2018 and spent 22 years in the job. There is plenty of road between a new deal and a statue, naturally, but Arsenal have made plain who they want driving the next stage of the journey.
Arteta’s view
After signing, Arteta spoke of his attachment to the club and the people around it.
“It is a privilege to commit my future to this club and to keep working with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal,” he said. “This is a unique club because of its character and the feeling it creates, and I feel very fortunate that our path together will continue.”
For Arsenal, the renewal brings continuity at a moment when the manager, his staff and the squad have already shown they can deliver at the top end of the table. The next fixture in the project is clear enough: make the success last.
