AS Nancy Players Remanded in Custody Over Gang Rape Allegation

AS Nancy Lorraine were left facing a grave legal matter on Sunday after two of their players were placed under formal investigation and remanded in custody over an allegation of gang rape. The identities of the two men have not been disclosed, while the Ligue 2 club had made no public statement at the time of the announcement.

Two players remanded in custody

Nancy public prosecutor François Capin-Dulhoste confirmed that the two ASNL footballers had been formally investigated for alleged gang rape and placed in pre-trial detention.

No details concerning the alleged events have been released by the prosecution. The players are suspected of involvement in a sexual-abuse case, but the precise accusations and circumstances have not been made public.

  • The two players were arrested on Wednesday 30 September.
  • Investigators from the Meurthe-et-Moselle interdepartmental national police directorate carried out the arrests.
  • Following several days in police custody, the men appeared before an investigating judge in Nancy on Friday 2 October.
  • The investigating judge placed both players under formal investigation.
  • A judge responsible for detention then ordered their remand in custody, in line with the prosecution’s request.

Nancy yet to address absences

AS Nancy Lorraine had not responded publicly to the case. The club may be required to explain the players’ likely absences from upcoming fixtures, but remained silent while the judicial process continued.

The formal investigation and pre-trial detention do not establish guilt. Both players are presumed innocent unless and until a final court ruling determines otherwise.

A previous case involving the club

The development comes after Nancy were previously linked to another case of a sexual nature in 2019.

Former ASNL goalkeeper Baptiste Valette was prosecuted following allegations made after a night out at a nightclub. He was acquitted on 3 December 2025, although the case is due to be heard again on appeal.
