Atlético Madrid Aim for Sixth Straight Win Against Stuttgart in Champions League

Atlético de Madrid take their winning run to Stuttgart on Champions League matchday three, with Diego Simeone’s side seeking a second successive European victory at the MHPArena.

The Spanish club arrive in Germany in confident form after making it six wins in a row in all competitions. Their latest success came away to Espanyol at the weekend, when Baena scored late to secure the points.

Five of those victories have come in LaLiga, while the other was last week’s home Champions League win over Manchester United. Atlético will now look to extend that momentum on a night that could shape the early league-phase picture.

Stuttgart’s perfect European start

Stuttgart have made a strong beginning in the Champions League despite a setback in domestic competition. Sebastian Hoeness’s team lost to Hamburg in the Bundesliga, with Miro Muheim scoring in the 88th minute, but their European record remains flawless.

The German side have won both of their Champions League fixtures, beating Viking in their opening match before following up with a victory over Slovan Bratislava. Those results have left Stuttgart on six points heading into Atlético’s visit.

With both clubs bringing recent momentum of different kinds into the contest, the MHPArena hosts a meeting between Stuttgart’s 100 per cent European record and an Atlético side whose form has turned a difficult schedule into a run of results.
