Atlético posted an image of the Portuguese coach at his post-match press conference, placing a pointed message over the picture: “End the harassment of referees now.” The post was a direct response to Mourinho’s remarks after Real’s defeat.
Mourinho had appeared before reporters on Sunday with two photographs of incidents involving Atlético players. He argued that the challenges should have brought tougher punishment from referee Miguel Angel Ortiz Arias.
The comments had already stirred a reaction among Atlético supporters online, and the club’s response showed there was little appetite at the Metropolitano to let the derby result pass quietly. The 2-1 victory remained the main prize, but Atlético made sure Mourinho’s refereeing debate became part of the celebration too.
