Augsburg and Union Berlin shared a 1-1 draw at the WWK Arena on Saturday, 24 October, in Bundesliga Matchday 7. Both sides finished with 10 men after Felix Uduokhai was dismissed for Union in the 19th minute and Augsburg’s Juma Bah followed him down the tunnel on 63 minutes.
Augsburg had the clearer first-half openings. Fabian Rieder tested the goal early from range, while Marius Wolf headed narrowly over from Rieder’s corner. Michael Gregoritsch headed one effort at the goalkeeper and sent further chances over, with Anton Kade, Arijon Ibrahimovic and Rieder also unable to convert Augsburg pressure.
Union lost Livan Burcu to a 25th-minute substitution, with Leopold Querfeld introduced, and went into the interval level despite playing a man short. Tim Skarke had sent their best early effort just wide after a Tom Rothe pass.
Quick exchange after Bah red
Calvin Brackelmann had already been forced off injured after 12 minutes, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw replacing him. Augsburg continued to find entries after the break, although Bah missed from a corner before his red card for a foul on András Schäfer changed the numbers to 10 against 10.
The hosts struck eight minutes later. Rieder’s shot was blocked, but the attack continued and his cross found Han-Noah Massengo, whose header from the middle of the box flew into the top-right corner for 1-0.
Union responded quickly. Janik Haberer levelled in the 74th minute, finishing from close range after a free-kick delivery. Union then brought on Oliver Burke, while Augsburg turned to Mert Kömür and Robin Fellhauer before introducing Rodrigo Ribeiro and Uchenna Ogundu late on.
Augsburg still had opportunities to win it. Kömür dragged an effort just wide, Kade also missed the right-hand post by a small margin, and Gregoritsch lifted a close-range chance over after Fellhauer’s cross. Ogundu’s added-time header skimmed the crossbar.
Union carried threat at the other end. Burke had a shot blocked after Michel Aebischer’s pass, Schäfer saw a close-range attempt stopped late on, and a final Union move ended with Burke flagged offside after Zeno Van den Bosch’s through ball. Mekhi Gray was booked for a dangerous challenge, while Querfeld and Haberer had also received yellow cards in the first half.
