Belgium Weigh Trossard or Vanaken for Nations League Clash with France

The Stade de France will host a familiar international tension on Monday night as Belgium arrive to face France in the Nations League, with one midfield decision still unresolved for Mark Van Bommel.

Belgium keep their shape for France test

Belgium go into the 20:45 kick-off after winning two of their first three Nations League matches. Van Bommel is expected to retain his 4-3-3 system and keep faith with most of the side used in recent fixtures.

  1. Belgium defeated Turkey 3-0 on Friday, a match in which Leandro Trossard returned and came on in the 74th minute.
  2. The main selection issue before the trip to Saint-Denis concerns the left-sided central midfield role.
  3. Trossard and Hans Vanaken are competing for that place in the starting XI.
  4. If Trossard starts, he is expected to move inside in possession and offer support to Charles De Ketelaere through the centre.
  5. If Vanaken is selected instead, he will wear the captain’s armband.

Seys set for defensive change

There is also set to be one alteration on the left of Belgium’s defence, where Joaquin Seys is due to replace Maxim De Cuyper.

Dodi Lukebakio is expected to keep his place on the right wing, making a second successive start as Belgium attempt to turn their positive opening Nations League run into another result against France.
