Bologna’s season has delivered another physical setback for Riccardo Orsolini, whose return to the scoresheet at Lecce has been followed by a new three-week absence.
Orsolini forced off after Lecce return
- Orsolini had recently returned after an injury sustained in early September, when he suffered a problem to the hamstring muscles of his left thigh.
- The Bologna captain marked his comeback with a goal at Lecce, an important personal moment in the side’s afternoon at the Via del Mare.
- Late in that match, however, he felt discomfort in his right thigh. Coach Raffaele Palladino had already used all five substitutions, leaving Bologna to finish with 10 men after Orsolini could not continue.
- Subsequent examinations identified a first-degree injury to the biceps femoris in his right thigh.
- Bologna expect the winger to be unavailable for around three weeks.
The timing is frustrating for Palladino, who had regained one of his captain’s decisive attacking voices only to lose him again. Orsolini’s goal in Lecce suggested he was ready to resume his place in the rhythm of the campaign, but Bologna must now manage another interruption for a player who has already had to deal with a separate injury on the opposite leg this season.
Odgaard returns to the group
There is, though, a more encouraging note from Bologna’s medical update. Jens Odgaard has resumed training with the squad after being out since late September with a hamstring injury.
Odgaard’s return gives Palladino a potential option as the club adjusts to Orsolini’s absence. For Bologna, the next weeks will be about keeping the side’s attacking balance while waiting for their captain to complete his recovery.
