Bologna have moved to reinforce Raffaele Palladino’s options after the international break, completing the signing of Matteo Darmian on a deal running until 30 June 2027.
The former Inter defender had been training with the Rossoblu since 30 September, initially arriving on trial as the club assessed its response to Emil Holm’s long-term injury. After nine days of work and testing, Bologna decided to make the move permanent.
Quick facts
- Matteo Darmian has joined Bologna until 30 June 2027.
- He began a trial period with the club on 30 September.
- Holm is expected to be out for around four to six months after surgery.
- Darmian could make his Bologna debut away to Lecce on Sunday at 15:00.
- Jens Odgaard will also miss the Lecce match with a muscle injury.
Holm suffered a right hamstring problem while on Sweden duty and requires an operation, with his recovery projected at between four and six months. His absence has created an immediate need for depth as Bologna return to league action.
Darmian offers Palladino experience and flexibility. He can operate as a wide midfielder in front of a three-man defence or as one of the defenders on the side of that back line.
The 35-year-old is expected to earn approximately €800,000 per season under the new agreement. Bologna confirmed that they had secured Darmian’s playing registration through to the summer of 2027.
He will be available when Bologna travel to Lecce on Sunday, with the match scheduled for 15:00. Odgaard is also unavailable after sustaining a muscular lesion during the international break.
Palladino has now welcomed back the rest of his international players and can prepare with a full group for the restart. Darmian’s arrival gives Bologna an experienced answer to a difficult injury setback at a point when the season’s rhythm resumes.
