Bologna’s response to Emil Holm’s absence is moving from assessment towards a decision, with Matteo Darmian currently the leading candidate to reinforce the squad.
The decision
Holm will undergo surgery in Finland, where he will be treated by surgeon Lempainen, the same specialist who operated on Artem Dovbyk in January. Bologna expect the Swedish defender to be unavailable for between three and four months.
The club are therefore examining three possible replacements. Darmian, 36, is presently ahead of the other options, although no final agreement has been made.
The former Inter and Manchester United player is spending several days at Casteldebole for physical tests and work designed to bring him back up to competitive condition. Bologna will decide whether to proceed only after he has passed that process.
Darmian spent six seasons with Inter and could return to football on a deal running until June 2027. The final choice is expected in the coming hours, when Bologna will also settle their plan for the period without Holm.
