After weeks of uncertainty, Bordeaux have been cleared to return to the pitch. The Girondins will begin life in Regional 1 with an away fixture in Bayonne, although one major court decision still awaits the club.
Bordeaux registered for Regional 1
- The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Football League’s regional control commission gave a favourable opinion on Bordeaux’s possible admission to Regional 1.
- Two days later, at a board meeting on Thursday late afternoon, the regional league formally approved the Girondins’ registration.
- Bordeaux subsequently released their fixture schedule, confirming their place in Group B.
- Their first match is set for Friday 16 October at 19:00, away to Aviron Bayonnais’ reserve side, in the fifth round of the Regional 1 season.
The opening four matchdays will not be lost, but have been postponed and will be fitted into the schedule later in the campaign.
Court ruling still pending
Administrative approval from the regional league does not complete every step in Bordeaux’s recovery. The Commercial Court of Bordeaux must still approve the club’s takeover and its revised continuation plan.
That ruling is expected on 20 October.
The club was bought at the end of September by English investment fund Park Bench, following an agreement with Gérard Lopez.
