Bournemouth Cruise to 3-0 Win Over Manchester United at Old Trafford

Bournemouth left Old Trafford with a 3-0 Premier League win that was as composed as it was comprehensive, taking their chances while Manchester United spent much of the afternoon finding bodies, gloves and the wrong side of the goal. Rayan and Marcus Tavernier put the visitors two ahead before the interval, and Evanilson’s remarkable long-range third on 71 minutes finished the argument.

It was a Matchday 8 fixture on Sunday 25 October, and Bournemouth set the early terms. Evanilson headed wide from Marcus Tavernier’s cross in the opening minutes, while Rayan was close at the far post after another Tavernier delivery. United conceded three early corners and were grateful when Rayan’s effort from Evanilson’s headed pass was blocked.

United’s first real opening arrived through Diogo Dalot, who lifted a left-footed attempt over after Mason Mount had found him in the area. But Bournemouth were sharper and more threatening down the flanks. Rayan broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, meeting Justin Kluivert’s free-kick cross from the left and driving a low finish inside the left post.

The home side had a chance to answer quickly when Bryan Mbeumo was played in by Mount, only for his low shot from the left of the box to be saved. Instead, Bournemouth doubled their lead in the 43rd minute. Adrien Truffert supplied the cross and Tavernier arrived centrally to steer a left-footed finish down the middle of the goal.

There was a fraying edge to the first half. Ayden Heaven, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos were booked for United, while Tyler Adams went into the book for Bournemouth. Harry Maguire also received a yellow card in added time for dangerous play. United made a half-time change, bringing on Matheus Cunha for Tielemans, but returned to the pitch with a considerable deficit to address.

Bournemouth nearly extended their advantage soon after the restart when Rayan’s low left-footed effort, supplied by Kluivert, was saved. United did create spells of pressure: Cunha fired over, Mbeumo failed to keep down an attempt after Leny Yoro’s through ball, and Lisandro Martínez, introduced for Heaven, saw a shot from outside the area stopped.

Yet the afternoon was slipping away rather than turning. United sent on Joshua Zirkzee for Carlos Baleba and Shea Lacey for Amad Diallo, while Bournemouth refreshed their side with Ben Gannon-Doak, Ryan Christie, Bafodé Diakité, Junior Kroupi and Amine Adli. The visitors retained their calm amid the changes.

The third goal had an air of finality about it. Lewis Cook set up Evanilson in the 71st minute and the Bournemouth forward struck from an unlikely distance and angle, his right-footed effort travelling through the middle of the goal to make it 3-0.

United continued to press, but the late passage summed up their day. Cunha had a close-range header blocked from a Martínez delivery, Mount blazed over following a corner, and Yoro headed wide before further efforts from Lacey and Yoro were repelled. Zirkzee saw a shot blocked, Lacey had another strike charged down, and Mount sent one wide before goalkeeper and defence dealt with his final attempt in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Bournemouth had been tested at moments, particularly during United’s flurry of corners, but they showed the greater authority at both ends. The final whistle confirmed an emphatic away result: Manchester United 0, Bournemouth 3.
