Brazil Beat Argentina 3-1 as Luany Shines in World Cup Warm-Up

Brazil began its home build-up to the 2027 Women’s World Cup with a 3-1 victory over Argentina in Porto Alegre, though an injury to right-back Bruninha cast a shadow over the night at Beira-Rio.

Luany, the Atlético de Madrid forward, made the decisive contribution in her 45 minutes on the pitch. She opened the scoring in the 27th minute, then supplied the pass for Angelina to strike in first-half stoppage time.

Geyse had doubled Brazil’s advantage in the 39th minute, before Angelina made it 3-0 at 45+1. Argentina found a route back through Maricel Pereyra six minutes after the restart, but could not turn that goal into a late recovery.

Brazil’s preparation begins in Porto Alegre

The meeting was the first of two summer friendlies between the South American rivals as Brazil prepares to host the next World Cup in 2027. The hosts controlled the first half through the pace and directness of Luany, whose goal and assist established a commanding interval lead.

Argentina’s task became still harder in added time when Agustina Vargas was shown a straight red card after a VAR review, leaving the visitors with 10 players in the 90+2nd minute.

Brazil will nevertheless be concerned by Bruninha’s departure on a stretcher after the defender sustained a knee injury. The extent of the problem was not specified.

The sides meet again on Tuesday at Arena Pernambuco in Recife, where Brazil will seek another positive result from a camp that began with attacking fluency but ended with an unwelcome fitness concern.
