Bruno Guimarães’ First Emirates Goal Sparks Arsenal Comeback Over Leeds

At the Emirates Stadium, Bruno Guimarães gave Arsenal’s season a timely lift from the substitutes’ bench, scoring the winner against Leeds after the London side had fallen behind. The Brazilian midfielder’s first goal at Arsenal’s home ground secured a comeback victory that restored momentum after the defeat at Brighton before the international break.

A decisive afternoon in north London

  1. Leeds took the lead, putting Mikel Arteta’s side under pressure in a match Arsenal needed to win.
  2. As Bruno Guimarães was preparing to replace Lewis-Skelly in the 63rd minute, Arsenal found an equaliser.
  3. The Brazilian entered the game and, seven minutes later, finished a move begun with a backheel pass to score the goal that delivered all three points.

It was Bruno’s first Emirates goal since arriving in London, and his second in seven appearances for Arsenal. He described sharing the moment with the home support as something special.

“My first goal at the Emirates means a great deal,” Bruno said. “Celebrating with the supporters was a unique feeling. I am sure this journey will bring many happy moments. I want to thank the fans for all the affection and support they have shown me since I arrived.”

Early pressure in the title race

The result leaves Arsenal second in the 2026/27 Premier League, level with leaders Manchester City on 15 points. City have played one match fewer and face Liverpool on Sunday.

For Arsenal, pursuing a second successive English title, Bruno underlined both the value of the Leeds win and the need for contributions across Arteta’s squad.

“I am very happy with such an important victory,” he said. “We needed to win this match and achieved our main objective. At a club of Arsenal’s level, everyone in the squad has to be involved and feel they are an important part of it. That internal competition will help us reach our targets. It is only the start of the season and we must stay focused.”
