Buccaneers, Cowboys Rule Out Key Starters for Week 5 Thursday Clash

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys will enter Thursday’s Week 5 matchup without several key starters, with both clubs listing multiple players as out on the final injury report.

Quick facts

  • Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is out with a right thumb injury.
  • Tampa Bay safety Antoine Winfield Jr. will miss the game because of a rib injury.
  • Cowboys guard Tyler Smith is questionable with a thumb injury.
  • Dallas also listed wide receiver Jonathan Mingo as questionable because of an illness.
  • Week 5 of the 2026 season includes 15 games from Thursday, Oct. 8 through Monday, Oct. 12.

Mayfield’s absence is the most significant development for Tampa Bay. The quarterback was ruled out alongside linebacker SirVocea Dennis, cornerback Benjamin Morrison and Winfield.

Dennis is dealing with ankle and foot issues, Morrison has a quad injury, and Winfield’s rib problem will keep him off the field Thursday.

Dallas will be without three players, all sidelined by hamstring injuries. Offensive tackle Drew Shelton, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and cornerback Cobie Durant were each ruled out.

The Cowboys could still have decisions to make on Smith and Mingo. Smith’s availability is in doubt because of a thumb injury, while Mingo is questionable due to illness.

The remainder of the Week 5 schedule is set for Sunday, Oct. 11, and Monday, Oct. 12. Player designations for all 15 games are being tracked throughout the week.
