Guela Doué’s planned first start for Bayer Leverkusen has been delayed by a right-calf muscle injury.
- The 23-year-old Ivory Coast international was injured in the final training session before Leverkusen’s Europa League opener against NK Celje.
- An MRI scan on Wednesday confirmed the problem. Bayer expect Doué to be unavailable for the coming weeks.
- Leverkusen signed the right-back from Racing Strasbourg on 1 September, shortly before the transfer deadline.
- Doué made his Bundesliga debut as a 63rd-minute substitute in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at FC Augsburg.
- That remains his only competitive appearance for Bayer 04.
- Before leaving Strasbourg, he completed 90 minutes in their 4-0 Ligue 1 defeat at Olympique Marseille.
- Doué is the older brother of Paris Saint-Germain and France player Désiré Doué.
What it changes in the Bundesliga week
Coach Carles Martinez must revise his defensive plans immediately. Doué had been in line to begin against Celje, but Bayer will now be without a newly recruited right-back for the next several weeks.
