Calgary Flames End Record Opening Skid With 4-2 Win Over Ducks

ANAHEIM — Calgary finally found its first win of the season Tuesday, using a third-period finish to beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-2 at Honda Center and halt the longest opening skid in Flames franchise history.

Pospisil breaks the tie late

With the game even at 2-2 deep in the third, Martin Pospisil gave Calgary the goal it had been chasing. He took a rush opportunity into the left circle and snapped the puck home at 15:38 for a 3-2 lead.

Yegor Sharangovich sealed it into an empty net with 1:22 remaining. The result moved the Flames to 1-5-0 after six games.

  • Martin Pospisil scored the winner at 15:38 of the third period.
  • Yegor Sharangovich added an empty-net goal for the final margin.
  • Aydar Suniev posted a goal and an assist.
  • Adam Klapka opened the scoring for Calgary.
  • Dustin Wolf stopped 23 shots in the Flames net.

Calgary answers Anaheim’s first-period push

The Flames struck first at 8:32 of the opening period, the first time Anaheim had trailed at any point this season. A Ducks breakout went wrong when Jeff Malott could not complete an outlet pass to Tim Washe. Maxim Tsyplakov collected the loose puck in the slot, dropped it to Klapka, and the Calgary forward fired a snap shot from above the hash marks for a 1-0 lead.

Anaheim answered during 4-on-4 play. Beckett Sennecke stripped Calgary defenseman Simon Nemec at the Flames blue line, broke in alone and beat Wolf at 12:09 to level the game.

Leo Carlsson then put the Ducks ahead 2-1 on the power play at 14:05. Anaheim had just come out of an 11-second two-man advantage when Carlsson snapped a shot from near the right face-off dot.

Suniev keeps the Flames level

Suniev pulled Calgary back even at 8:02 of the second period. Eight seconds after the Flames’ two-man advantage, which began at 5:54, had expired, Suniev drilled a one-timer from the inside edge of the right circle.

The goal continued an early NHL run for Suniev, who had scored his first League goal in Calgary’s loss to Anaheim on Saturday. The Ducks had won that 4-2 meeting and entered Tuesday on a two-game winning streak.

  • Anaheim fell to 4-2-0.
  • Beckett Sennecke and Leo Carlsson scored for the Ducks.
  • Lukas Dostal made 32 saves despite the loss.
  • Calgary turned a 2-2 game after two periods into its first victory of the campaign.

McQueen makes his NHL debut

Ducks forward Roger McQueen made his NHL debut in the loss. The No. 10 selection in the 2025 NHL Draft logged 11:26 of ice time and recorded one shot on goal.
