The WTA has selected Charlotte after an international bidding process, with Spectrum Center, the home arena of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, set to stage the Finals for three consecutive seasons beginning in 2027.
The arrangement is designed to establish a permanent base for one of the Tour’s biggest events after the Finals spent much of the last two decades moving between international host cities. The tournament will return to the United States in 2026 at Indian Wells before the Charlotte era begins.
Valerie Camillo, the WTA Chair, said Charlotte offered more than a venue for a single tournament week.
“The Finals showcase the very best of women’s tennis, with elite players competing for a prize that matches their achievements,” Camillo said. “Charlotte gives us partners with the same vision and an opportunity to create a lasting home for both the Finals and the WTA.”
The draw: eight singles places and the leading doubles teams
The WTA Finals closes the WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz season. Qualification is determined by results accumulated across the year in the PIF Race to the WTA Finals, with only the highest-ranked singles players and doubles teams earning places in the championship field.

WTA headquarters also moving to North Carolina
The partnership extends beyond the Finals court. The WTA will transfer its global headquarters to Charlotte, linking the Tour more closely with the city’s business, civic, sporting and community networks.
Charlotte Sports Foundation served as the WTA’s principal local partner during the bid process, working with state and municipal officials, county representatives and the regional business community.
Foundation chief executive Will Pitts described the agreement as a landmark development for the city’s sporting calendar. He said the successful bid reflected Charlotte’s growth as a major sports destination and credited support from public-sector partners and the foundation’s board.
Charlotte was chosen for its sporting facilities, hospitality capacity, corporate base and record of public-private cooperation. The WTA intends to use the long-term arrangement to expand the Finals beyond match play, with fan activity, entertainment, culture and community initiatives forming part of the event week.
Further announcements on dates, tickets, fan experiences and community programming are scheduled to be made in Charlotte on Wednesday, September 16, alongside Governor Josh Stein, local officials, community leaders, the WTA and the Charlotte Sports Foundation.
