In west London, Chelsea’s next midfield prospect is stepping into a larger international frame. Lexi Potter, the 20-year-old academy product who has spent almost her entire football life with the Blues, has received her first senior England call-up ahead of a decisive World Cup qualifier against Greece.

Potter has been part of Chelsea’s pathway since her youth development years and became England’s youngest player to sign a professional contract when she put pen to paper on 3 September 2023, aged 17.
Her route has included two seasons on loan at Crystal Palace, from 2023 to 2025, before returning to Chelsea. She had previously represented England at under-23 level, but her performances this season have earned her promotion into Sarina Wiegman’s senior squad.
Wiegman said Potter had been monitored during the previous campaign, while her form this term had made a particularly strong impression and secured her place in the group.
Keira Walsh, Potter’s Chelsea teammate, has spoken warmly about the young midfielder’s potential. Walsh described her as an exceptional talent who plays with maturity beyond her years, highlighting a reading of the game that few players possess in the same way.
Walsh believes Potter has significant development still ahead of her, but sees the midfielder as a player capable of becoming important to both Chelsea and England.

The Greece match carries considerable importance for the European champions. England did not clinch automatic qualification from their group, leaving them with a pivotal fixture in their effort to reach the World Cup.
