Chema Andrés Scores First Premier League Goal for Brighton Against Arsenal

On the south coast of England, Chema Andrés has reached an early landmark in his Brighton career. The 21-year-old Spanish midfielder scored his first Premier League goal against reigning champions Arsenal, providing Brighton’s third goal in a demanding test against one of the division’s leading sides.

It was another sign of a swift adjustment for a player who arrived in the summer from Stuttgart in a €22 million transfer. Brighton committed heavily to the former Real Madrid midfielder after a season in which he made 41 appearances in Germany, and he has already supplied an assist as well as this first league goal in England.

Developed at Real Madrid’s La Fábrica academy, Andrés has brought energy, physical presence and an ability to work across both penalty areas to his new surroundings. His display against Arsenal underlined why Brighton saw room for growth in a midfielder still only 21, but already accustomed to senior football in two major European leagues.

His emergence also invites a familiar Madrid reflection. A young player with running power and influence at both ends of the pitch is the sort of midfield profile José Mourinho’s side could have valued, yet Andrés’ route to prominence has taken him first through Stuttgart and now to Brighton. For the Spanish midfielder, the immediate story is more straightforward: his Premier League introduction now includes a goal on one of the competition’s biggest stages.
