Clément Turpin Appointed Referee for Real Betis vs Porto

Seville’s La Cartuja will host Real Betis and Porto on Wednesday, with French referee Clément Turpin appointed for the Spanish side’s first home outing of this Champions League league phase. Betis arrive after winning their opening match, and the visit of the Portuguese club brings one of Europe’s most experienced officials to the Andalusian stage.

Turpin, 44, takes charge of his first match in this season’s league phase, having already officiated a Champions League qualifier. His recent European assignments underline his standing: his final continental fixture last season was the Champions League quarter-final between Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona.

The Frenchman also worked through to the quarter-finals at the most recent World Cup. Among those matches was England’s 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway.

It will be only Turpin’s second European appointment involving Betis. His previous meeting with the Verdiblancos came in the second leg of their 2024-25 Conference League quarter-final against Jagiellonia Białystok, a match that ended 1-1 in Poland.

Porto have encountered him six times in European competition, recording two wins, one draw and three defeats. Their latest fixture under Turpin was a 1-0 home loss to Olympiacos in 2024-25. Their most recent victory with him in charge dates back to 2020-21, when Porto won 1-0 away to Manchester City in the second leg of a quarter-final.

Fellow French official Willy Delajod will oversee video review duties for the match.
