Coby White Sidelined for Hornets Preseason With Left Calf Strain

Charlotte’s point guard rotation has taken an early hit: Coby White will miss the full preseason after straining his left calf in training camp.

The Hornets have not set a timetable for White’s return, leaving his status for the October 21 regular-season opener at Brooklyn unresolved. The club said it will provide another update once the injury has been further evaluated.

From the locker room

White entered camp positioned to run the first unit after Charlotte dealt LaMelo Ball to Minnesota during the offseason. His absence removes the expected starter from preseason practices and exhibition minutes, giving the Hornets time to sort through their remaining ball-handling options.

In 21 games for Charlotte last season, White posted 15.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

The key question now is whether the calf issue clears in time for White to open the season in the starting group. For now, Charlotte will have to manage its preseason rotation without him.
