In Llavallol, south of Buenos Aires, concern has gathered around Daniel Osvaldo after the former Argentina international and Boca Juniors forward was admitted to intensive care with a serious lung condition. The 39-year-old underwent emergency surgery and remains under close medical observation, with his condition described as guarded.
Emergency admission in Llavallol
Osvaldo was taken to a local clinic late on Thursday, at around 11pm, after several days of feeling unwell. His sister reportedly found him at home and, assisted by a friend, brought him to the medical centre.
The former striker, who also played for Huracán and Banfield in Argentina, was diagnosed with a severe right-sided pleural effusion: an accumulation of fluid around the lung. Reports also indicated an infection involving pus, which had affected his breathing.

Surgery to treat the lung infection

Part of the affected lung tissue was also resected during the intervention. Osvaldo continues to be monitored in intensive care as doctors assess his recovery after the operation.
A difficult period beyond football
The health emergency follows Osvaldo’s own public comments earlier this year about a difficult personal period. In a video posted on social media in March, he said he had been dealing with severe depression and was receiving psychiatric treatment connected to addiction issues.
Since ending his playing career, Osvaldo has appeared in public only intermittently while also pursuing music. His sudden hospitalisation has now brought fresh concern for a player whose career carried him through clubs in Argentina and across European football, as well as a spell with the Italian national team.
