Dro Fernández Shines on First PSG Champions League Start

Dro Fernández’s first Champions League start brought a decisive glimpse of Paris Saint-Germain’s future, as the 18-year-old midfielder supplied an assist in the 6-1 win over Slovan Bratislava and earned warm backing from Luis Enrique.

Dro Fernández announces himself in Paris

  1. Fernández left Barcelona after turning 18 to join PSG, a move that disappointed Barcelona coach Hansi Flick. The midfielder from Nigrán signed a contract in Paris running until 2030.
  2. After making 12 first-team appearances and playing 685 minutes for Barcelona last season, scoring once, he has begun to establish himself under Luis Enrique.
  3. His first Champions League start came in PSG’s emphatic 6-1 victory against Slovan Bratislava, a night on which he created Fabián Ruiz’s sixth goal.
  4. The former Barcelona player has now recorded 127 minutes across four appearances this season for the French side.

Luis Enrique sees room for more

Luis Enrique praised the teenager after the match, stressing both the level he has already reached and the scope for further progress.

“He is only 18, and it is remarkable that he is already performing like this,” the PSG coach said. “We knew about him before he arrived. I love seeing his improvement, and if he keeps playing at this level, he will have opportunities.”

For Fernández, the European start was not something he had anticipated. Yet he said his approach is to be ready whenever the team needs him.

“I did not expect to play, but you have to be prepared when the moment arrives and be able to help the side,” he said.

A patient route in a demanding squad

Fernández said he feels stronger and more confident, while acknowledging that PSG’s established players make his adaptation easier.

“I am much better and I have far more confidence, which I can feel,” he said. “With these team-mates it is very easy to play because they make everything simpler. I think I can improve further and that I still have plenty of room to grow.”

The midfielder’s immediate ambition is not to force his way through the door, but to remain available during a season in which PSG’s Champions League campaign can shape the rhythm and pressure of every week.

“My aim is to keep helping the team whenever I can and always be ready,” Fernández added. “I want to continue developing. I am not in any hurry. I am very happy here.”
