Emanuele Rao Inspires Young Diabetics Ahead of Pisa’s Win Over Cremonese

Emanuele Rao’s week with Pisa carried meaning beyond the result on the pitch. Before the Nerazzurri defeated Cremonese 3-1 at the Cetilar Arena, the winger met young people living with diabetes and offered a message shaped by his own daily experience.

Rao, on loan at Pisa from Napoli after his time at Bari, has lived with Type 1 diabetes since he was nine. Ahead of the seventh Serie B matchday, representatives of the Associazione Giovani Diabetici presented him with a commemorative plaque.

Quick facts

  • Emanuele Rao has Type 1 diabetes and has managed the condition since childhood.
  • The Pisa winger met members of the Associazione Giovani Diabetici before the Cremonese match.
  • Pisa beat Cremonese 3-1 at the Cetilar Arena in Serie B’s seventh round.
  • Rao is a Napoli player currently on loan with Pisa, having previously played for Bari.

The association thanked Rao for becoming a visible example to children and their families. Its message stressed that his story reaches beyond football, giving young people reason to trust that their ambitions remain possible.

The following day, Rao addressed children with diabetes directly on Instagram. He urged them not to believe that the condition makes them inferior to anyone else, acknowledging that the road can be demanding while insisting that illness cannot set the limits of a person’s future.

He described his life as two matches played every day: the public one, with the ball at his feet, and the private contest against his condition. The latter can be the harder challenge, he said, but one he faces each day with the intention of winning.

Rao also dedicated part of the message to his parents, crediting their faith, support in difficult periods and help in turning his football dream into reality. He said every achievement of his career carries a special share for them.

For the children who heard from him, his final point was simple: keep dreaming, smiling and believing in yourselves. Diabetes, he said, is part of life but must not become the boundary of what they can hope to become.
