Eric Dier has saluted Harry Kane after his former Tottenham and Bayern team-mate was named Footballer of the Year, recalling the flight to Perth when Kane first told him of his wish to join Bayern Munich.

Dier and Kane shared the pitch almost 400 times, first through their Tottenham years and later at Bayern, where they won the Bundesliga together. Dier, who has since left Munich, said the pair had recognised early that Kane and Bayern were a natural fit.
In a message to Kane, Dier looked back three years to Tottenham’s pre-season trip to Perth. On the outbound flight, Kane told him Bayern wanted to sign him and that he was keen on the move.
“We both felt you and Bayern belonged together,” Dier said. “But we could not have known then just how perfectly it would work out.”
Dier also referred to an old piece of underwear advice he had given Kane, adding another private detail to a partnership that ran from Tottenham’s academy pathway to a Bundesliga title in Munich.
