The France Under-21 camp has lost two attacking midfielders after the 2-0 win in Estonia, with Ethan Mbappé and Senny Mayulu both returning to their clubs for further medical checks.
Mbappé and Mayulu leave the squad
The pair arrived back at Le Bourget with the rest of Gérald Baticle’s squad on Wednesday afternoon but were due to depart the camp later that evening.
- Lille midfielder Ethan Mbappé injured his right ankle in Estonia.
- He is believed to have suffered a sprain, with an expected lay-off of around three weeks.
- LOSC will carry out additional examinations to establish the full extent of the problem.
- Paris Saint-Germain’s Senny Mayulu sustained a muscle injury to his left thigh.
- Mayulu will undergo further tests in Paris before the severity of his injury can be confirmed.
Tabibou called into Clairefontaine
Baticle has opted for one replacement rather than two. Nantes midfielder Dehmaine Tabibou has been called up and will join the young France side at Clairefontaine.
Tabibou was already involved with the Under-21s during the March international window, and now returns as France prepare for the final two fixtures of this break.
One point needed for Euro qualification
France are close to securing top spot in their qualifying group and a direct route to the European Under-21 Championship finals. A single point from their remaining matches will be enough to confirm first place.
- France Under-21s face Luxembourg on Saturday.
- They then meet Switzerland on Tuesday.
- The Euro Under-21 finals will be staged in Albania and Serbia from 16 June to 3 July.
The immediate priority, though, is managing two fresh injuries: Mbappé returning to Lille with an ankle issue, and Mayulu heading back to Paris for assessment on his left thigh.
