On England’s south coast, Bournemouth found the kind of afternoon that can change the feel of an early season. A 2-0 home win over Sunderland in the seventh round of the 2026-27 Premier League brought the club its first league victory of the campaign and lifted it clear of the relegation places.
Brazilian forward Evanilson again shaped the result at the Vitality Stadium. The 27-year-old scored for a third successive match, reaching 100 career goals in the process, before setting up Marcus Tavernier for Bournemouth’s other goal. Rayan, the former Vasco da Gama player, also started for the home side.
The points take Bournemouth to six and into 15th place, offering a little more room after a difficult opening to the league season. For a club accustomed to measuring its Premier League progress in narrow margins, the clean sheet and the result in front of its own support carried particular weight.
Evanilson marks a personal milestone
“It is hard to put into words what I have been experiencing in these recent games,” Evanilson said after the match. “It is very good to score again and help the team earn another win. Reaching 100 goals is special for me, and I thank everyone who has been alongside me on this journey.”
He also connected the Sunderland result with Bournemouth’s recent momentum, following what he described as a historic victory in midweek. “We achieved a historic win during the week and then won again in front of our supporters, strengthening our home game,” the striker added.
Evanilson began his professional path at Fluminense before moving from the Rio de Janeiro club to Porto in 2020. He joined Bournemouth in 2024, bringing a European chapter to a career that has now reached a century of goals. On this Sunday by the Channel, that landmark arrived alongside a win Bournemouth badly needed.
