Spain’s world champions are back on the international road, with two Paris-based players included as Luis de la Fuente begins the next chapter after the World Cup triumph in the United States.

Ferran Torres and Fabian Ruiz have both been selected in Spain’s first squad since the 1-0 extra-time World Cup final victory over Argentina.
There are 22 world champions in the group, alongside several changes following the tournament. Barcelona attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez returns after missing the World Cup because of a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot, suffered in May.
Lopez has made a strong start to the season for Barcelona, registering four goals and two assists. He is one of seven Barcelona players called up by De la Fuente.
Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Pau Cubarsi, all Ballon d’Or candidates, are also included. Pedri, Dani Olmo and Eric Garcia complete the Barcelona contingent. Gavi is absent as he serves a one-match suspension.
Real Madrid have two representatives in Marc Cucurella, signed shortly before the World Cup, and centre-back Dean Huijsen. Huijsen benefits from Marcos Llorente’s international retirement, while Eric Garcia is expected to be used in a wider defensive role after having been Spain’s fourth centre-back at the World Cup.
Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez is another new face in the squad. He has become Inter’s first-choice goalkeeper and takes advantage of an injury to Barcelona’s Joan Garcia.
Espanyol forward Roberto Fernandez is also selected, replacing veteran striker Borja Iglesias from the World Cup squad.
Spain’s next Nations League matches
Spain will play four Nations League fixtures during the international window. Their campaign resumes away to England on 26 September before Croatia visit three days later.
