For Felicia Schröder, the journey from Barcelona to the Sweden camp has brought a sharp lesson in the extremes of elite football. Real Madrid’s young Swedish forward endured a 7-0 Clásico defeat at Camp Nou, then answered it days later with a hat-trick on her senior international debut as Sweden beat Lithuania 5-0 in World Cup qualifying.
From Camp Nou disappointment to a Sweden milestone
Schröder has made an encouraging start to her first season under Real Madrid coach Pau Quesada and is regarded as one of Sweden’s most promising attacking players. But Barcelona’s emphatic home victory over Madrid was a difficult introduction to the scale of the rivalry.
In the aftermath of the defeat, the forward admitted the scoreline had become overwhelming, saying there was “a moment when I lost count”.
- Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 7-0 at Camp Nou in the Clásico.
- Schröder then joined Sweden directly after the match.
- Sweden beat Lithuania 5-0 in a World Cup playoff fixture.
- The Real Madrid attacker scored three times in her first appearance for the senior national team.
A shirt to keep after debut hat-trick
The Lithuania match offered an immediate chance to move beyond the Camp Nou result, and Schröder seized it. Her three goals made the occasion one she said she had only imagined before stepping onto the international stage.
“It is something you can only dream about. I am going to keep this shirt,” she said after the final whistle. “Scoring on your debut is a dream. I love scoring goals and helping the team. That is what I fight for whenever I am on the pitch.”
Turning quickly to the next match
Schröder said there had been little opportunity for Real Madrid’s players to dwell on the Barcelona loss because the international call-up followed immediately.
She felt the 7-0 scoreline was excessive, but stressed that players must recover quickly when fixtures arrive one after another.
“The result was too large,” she said. “We went straight from there to the national team, so we have not had much time to talk about it. As a footballer, you have matches all the time. It is important to turn the page and focus on what you did well.”
