Dortmund made the sharp start. Guirassy released Fábio Silva on a counterattack in the fifth minute, and the forward finished from the middle of the area.
Paderborn had enough early moments to test the home side. Stefano Marino missed from Marvin Pieringer’s pass, while Tjark Scheller headed wide from a Laurin Ulrich corner. Santiago Castañeda and Laurin Curda also sent efforts off target in the 18th minute.
Joey Veerman forced a low save in the 16th minute, before Waldemar Anton fired over. Dortmund thought they had a second goal on 31 minutes when Guirassy finished after a Fábio Silva through ball, but the striker had been offside.
The same sequence returned just before half-time. Guirassy again put the ball in the net after Daniel Svensson’s pass, only for VAR to cancel it for offside. Dortmund went into the break one goal ahead.
Paderborn stayed competitive after the restart. Laurin Ulrich had a shot blocked, Mattes Hansen saw an effort stopped and Castañeda fired over from outside the box. Raphael Obermair also created pressure from set pieces, but the visitors could not find a finish.
Dortmund’s young midfield had several openings. Ethan Nwaneri had a close-range effort saved after Guirassy’s pass, then created chances for Guirassy and Jobe Bellingham. Guirassy’s header was stopped, Bellingham headed wide and another Guirassy attempt was held.
Niko Kovač changed the attack on 65 minutes, sending on Marcel Sabitzer, Carney Chukwuemeka and Nmecha for Veerman, Fábio Silva and Nwaneri. Maximilian Beier replaced Julian Ryerson on 77 minutes, while Ramy Bensebaini came on for Nico Schlotterbeck.
Paderborn made a triple change in the 67th minute. Oliver Batista Meier, Steffen Tigges and Clemens Lippmann entered for Gabriel Vidovic, Stefano Marino and Laurin Curda. Luka Djuric later replaced Ulrich, with Rayan Philippe on for Hansen.
The second goal arrived on 80 minutes. Guirassy’s first shot was blocked after a Bellingham through ball, but Beier then supplied Nmecha, who drove a low right-footed finish inside the left post.
Sabitzer hit the crossbar from Guirassy’s pass in the 84th minute. He then provided the third, crossing for Nmecha to score low from the centre of the box in the 89th minute.
Jobe Bellingham was booked for dangerous play in the 66th minute. Paderborn’s Laurin Ulrich had received a yellow card in the first half. Lippmann’s late effort from distance went wide as Dortmund closed out the 3-0 result.
