Fiorentina’s difficult spell has brought another setback, with Marin Pongracic ruled out after suffering a right-thigh hamstring injury during the league meeting with Inter. The defender will not be available for the next match against Atalanta, leaving Paolo Vanoli with a significant absence in his defensive options.
Pongracic begins rehabilitation
Medical examinations carried out on Monday identified a myofascial injury to the long head of Pongracic’s right biceps femoris muscle. Fiorentina confirmed that the Croatian defender has already started the treatment and rehabilitation programme prescribed by the club’s medical staff.
- The injury was sustained in Inter-Fiorentina.
- It concerns the long head of the hamstring in Pongracic’s right thigh.
- He will miss Fiorentina’s forthcoming fixture against Atalanta.
- The player will undergo a further assessment over the coming weeks.
An absence likely to extend beyond Atalanta
The expected recovery period is measured in weeks rather than days. Pongracic is therefore also likely to be unavailable for the matches against Sassuolo and Juventus, with a return after the next league break considered the more realistic prospect.
For Vanoli, the timing is unwelcome. Fiorentina are already navigating a demanding period of the Serie A season, and losing a defender for several important fixtures adds another issue to manage across the coming Sunday afternoons.
Fiorentina await the next assessment
The club has not set a firm return date. Pongracic’s progress through the rehabilitation work will determine when he can resume full training, while Fiorentina prepare to face Atalanta without him and look for continuity through the run of matches before the break.
