The first France Women squad of the new season will arrive with empty seats as well as fresh possibilities. Laurent Bonadei is due to name his group on Thursday afternoon for the October friendly against Latvia in Laval, with injuries set to rule out three established players.
France begin World Cup build-up in Laval
- Bonadei will announce his selection from 14:00 on Thursday.
- France will face Latvia in a friendly at Laval on 10 October, their only match of the October international window.
- The fixture marks the start of the new campaign for Les Bleues, who have already secured qualification for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil, running from 25 June to 24 July.
Injuries expected to force three absences
Delphine Cascarino, now at London City Lionesses, is not expected to be included because of injury. Arsenal defender Élisa De Almeida and Aston Villa midfielder Oriane Jean-François are also likely to miss out for the same reason.
Bonadei is also expected to leave out San Diego Wave pair Perle Morroni and Laurina Fazer. With France playing only once, the coach is understood to want to spare the two players the long trip from the United States.
A possible opening for Océane Hurtré
The absences could create room for another look at emerging talent. During the final camp of last season, Bonadei handed call-ups to Julie Swierot, Maeline Mendy, Lucie Calba and Justine Rouquet.
Océane Hurtré could now be in line for a first opportunity. The 22-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder has made a strong beginning at Birmingham, newly promoted to the Barclays Women’s Super League.
The left-footed player scored in Birmingham’s 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace last Sunday, a match featuring France goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin on the opposing side. Her early form has placed her among the potential new faces for a squad beginning the long road towards Brazil.
