Genoa Relieved as Lorenzo Colombo’s Ankle Injury Is Less Serious Than Feared

Genoa have received a measure of relief over Lorenzo Colombo after the striker’s injury in the friendly against Rapid Bucharest proved less serious than first feared.

The decision

The early images from Romania had suggested a potentially severe problem. Colombo’s foot remained planted as his leg moved awkwardly, raising immediate concern for the Rossoblu forward.

Tests have nevertheless delivered a better outcome than those pictures appeared to indicate. The diagnosis will still keep Colombo out, but his absence is expected to be limited to three or four matches rather than a long-term lay-off.

Genoa are likely to be without him against Fiorentina, Roma and Venezia, with the late-October midweek meeting with Juventus also likely to come too soon.

The expectation is that Colombo can return around the beginning of November, potentially in the survival contest away to Lecce at the Via del Mare. For a side measuring its season in points, availability and small margins, the news gives the coaching staff a realistic target rather than an open-ended concern.
