Gilberto Mora and Cavan Sullivan: North America’s Rising Teen Stars

In Tijuana and Philadelphia, two teenage midfielders are already carrying the attention that follows football’s next North American generation. Mexico’s Gilberto Mora and the United States’ Cavan Sullivan have reached senior club football early, but their routes, production and international experience now offer a clear contrast.

The news from the club

Mora has become an increasingly important attacking presence for Xolos de Tijuana. The Mexican midfielder is valued at €25 million and had returned five goals plus one assist from seven Liga MX matches in the 2026-27 campaign, an unusually decisive start for a player of his age.

Sullivan’s current valuation stands at €10 million. With Philadelphia Union, the American has built his influence more through chance creation: across the 2026 MLS season, he recorded seven goals and 12 assists in 24 league appearances.

The figures underline different profiles. Mora has made a sharp impact close to goal for Tijuana, while Sullivan’s output for Philadelphia has been defined by both finishing and supplying teammates.

International paths diverge

Mora has already travelled further with Mexico’s senior side. He made his first appearance for the national team in June 2025 and featured at the 2026 World Cup. He has accumulated 13 Mexico appearances and scored once.

Sullivan reached the United States senior setup in September 2026 after making his name through the country’s youth teams. His early involvement with the senior national side opens a new stage in his development as the United States continues to bring young players into its squad.

For now, Mora holds the greater senior international experience, including a World Cup appearance, alongside his strong Liga MX return. Sullivan’s case rests on an impressive creative record in MLS and a first foothold with the United States. Their careers are moving at different speeds and through different competitions, but both remain among the continent’s closely watched young talents.
