Givairo Read’s rise at Feyenoord is beginning to carry implications beyond Rotterdam. At 20, the right-back has already played more than 60 matches for the Dutch club and is attracting increasing attention as the Netherlands prepare for a new international cycle under Xavi Hernández after the World Cup.
Read has supplied four assists in the Eredivisie this season, strengthening his case as one of the young players pushing through in the Dutch game. His progress at Feyenoord has also placed him in contention for a senior Netherlands call-up, where he would compete for a place with Denzel Dumfries.

A missing email, but no lack of interest
For now, Read says he has not received any indication that a call-up is imminent. Speaking after a match, he explained that the problem may have been more practical than sporting.
“I know absolutely nothing,” he said. “I have not received an email from them because they always send them to the wrong address.”
The defender added, with a joke, that the issue should now be resolved. “If you type my email address, autocorrect appears. I have already pointed it out, so I should receive them in the future. It will be sorted out.”
Read remains demanding of his own performances at Feyenoord while waiting to discover whether his club development will be recognised by the national side. His answer to a possible invitation was uncomplicated: “If I am called up, of course I will go gladly.”
