Borussia Mönchengladbach will keep the coaching search in the background for Saturday’s home match against Mainz 05. Jan-Moritz Lichte will take charge as interim coach, with sporting director Rouven Schröder asking for full focus on a fixture he described as important.

Gladbach have lost their opening three league matches and remain without a point. The club does not expect to appoint its new head coach before the international break.
Lichte has been given one match in charge. Schröder said the decision was made early so that the interim coach could prepare the squad without uncertainty around the role.
“The coach on Saturday is Jan-Moritz Lichte, and it is Borussia Mönchengladbach against Mainz 05,” Schröder said. “Who is on the bench afterwards is irrelevant. Borussia want points. We have to do everything for that.”
Behind the scenes, Gladbach are working towards an appointment during the international break. The preferred timing is next week, allowing the incoming coach to oversee Thursday’s friendly at Sportfreunde Siegen.
Schröder said the club were satisfied with the progress of the search. Despite the poor start, he believes Gladbach remain an attractive job and can still produce a good season.
The club have received substantial interest. Schröder said an initial longlist had been reduced through defined requirements, then narrowed to a final group. Two or three candidates are expected to make the final selection.
The chosen coach must understand the club from the outside, arrive prepared for the role and present a clear plan for Borussia’s future. Schröder stressed that finding the right appointment mattered more than completing the process a day earlier.
