At Sabina Park in Kingston, Haiti turned a match that appeared to be slipping away into one of the most dramatic nights of the opening Concacaf Nations League window. Garven Metusala struck in the 91st minute and Wilson Isidor completed an extraordinary 3-2 comeback seven minutes later against Trinidad and Tobago, sending Les Grenadiers into the Group A lead pack.
Haiti, playing as the home side in Jamaica’s capital, had begun the first of four Group A matchdays with authority. Fafá Picault put them ahead after 23 minutes, rising to head in the opening goal and giving the side an early reward for its control.
That comfort lasted only eight minutes. Trinidad and Tobago drew level from a set-piece move finished by midfielder Wayne Frederick, and the Soca Warriors carried that momentum into the second half. Their captain Levi García made it 2-1 in the 59th minute, at a stage when Haiti’s repeated defensive lapses seemed likely to prove costly.
The closing moments changed the whole shape of the evening. With Canadian referee Filip Dujic’s added time under way, Metusala found the equaliser in the 91st minute, seemingly rescuing a point. Haiti did not settle for that. In the 98th minute, Sunderland forward Isidor delivered the winning goal and left the field as the decisive figure in a remarkable late revival.
The victory gives Haiti its first three points of the campaign. They sit alongside Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic at the top of Group A after an opening night that showed just how quickly the region’s Nations League matches can turn.
