Kane, one of the 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, described the season as the finest of his career after combining individual production with collective success. His tally is reported as the second highest ever recorded in a single season for club and international football, behind only Lionel Messi’s 82 goals in 69 appearances for Barcelona and Argentina in 2011/12.

Speaking about his nomination, Kane said he has never been comfortable promoting his own case. He called the previous campaign exceptional both personally and collectively, adding that the 73-goal figure speaks for itself and is a source of immense pride.
The 33-year-old was keen to share credit with the teammates and staff around him. He said the final choice lies with the voters rather than with any player’s public case, and stressed that Bayern’s current season has become his priority despite the discussion expected to continue until the October ceremony.
Ballon d’Or field awaits London ceremony
Kane is joined among the 30 contenders by Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Yamal, Erling Haaland and Vinicius Junior. The nomination gives Bayern a major presence in one of football’s most prominent individual awards, with Kane’s figures spanning both the German champions and England.
Rather than looking back for too long, Kane said he is eager to see what he can still achieve this season. The Ballon d’Or remains an important prize, he acknowledged, but it is no longer something he can influence directly.
A third European Golden Shoe in sight
The individual target still within Kane’s hands is another European Golden Shoe. He is pursuing a third success in the award, a level surpassed only by Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Kane said those two forwards set the standard for a generation and belong among the greatest players in the game. To be mentioned in that company, he said, is already meaningful. He regards another Golden Shoe as a genuine ambition, while insisting that scoring remains valuable chiefly because it helps Bayern win.
