Harry Kane’s Late Goal Earns Bayern Munich Win at Elversberg

Bayern Munich needed Harry Kane’s 72nd-minute finish to leave Elversberg with a 2-1 win. The promoted side, playing in the smallest Bundesliga community in league history, pushed Vincent Kompany’s team hard at the Waldstadion Kaiserlinde.

The sporting fact

Bayern arrived after a goalless league draw against Schalke and a 5-0 Champions League win over Bodø/Glimt. They are now fourth on seven points.

Elversberg had won their opening two league matches and played without caution. Bayern controlled the early ball but found few clear openings. Aleksandar Pavlovic fired over, while Kim Min-jae nearly diverted into his own net. Noah Darvich also tested Bayern’s concentration.

A Petkov error almost gave Kane an opening before Bayern took the lead after the midway point of the first half. Ismael Saibari delivered into the box, Kane allowed the ball to run, and Lennart Karl finished from close range at the far post.

Elversberg thought they had levelled before the interval. Cole Campbell beat Dayot Upamecano for pace and converted after Pavlovic’s poor clearance, but a lengthy VAR review found a very tight offside.

Kane then had a second Bayern goal ruled out for another narrow offside after the break. Elversberg responded through Bayern academy product Frans Krattenmacher. The 21-year-old curled in from outside the area for his third goal of the season.

Kompany made four changes with roughly 25 minutes remaining. Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Luis Díaz and Joshua Kimmich entered. Díaz nearly scored immediately, but goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof stopped his backheel attempt when Kane was available alongside him.

Michael Olise struck the bar after first sending a powerful effort wide of the target. Kane then settled the match. He created room and drove a precise shot inside the near post.

Elversberg still had a chance through Futkeu, whose pressured finish passed narrowly wide. Kane was denied again from close range, while Kimmich forced Kristof into a save from distance. The home side faded late on, allowing Bayern to see out the points.
