Ibrahima Konaté Withdraws from France Squad with Knee Ligament Injury

Madrid’s difficult run has been compounded during the international break, with Ibrahima Konaté leaving the France camp after suffering a right-leg collateral ligament injury.

The defender’s setback arrives after Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Atlético de Madrid and a recent decline in their LaLiga form. It also removes a regular defensive option from Zinedine Zidane’s France squad at a time when both club and country are awaiting a clearer picture of his recovery.

Injury at the France training camp

  1. Konaté joined France’s opening training sessions and was working alongside the rest of the squad.
  2. A misplaced movement during the session caused discomfort in his right leg, sending the defender to the ground in front of media cameras.
  3. He attempted to get back up and continue, but could not do so. He was seen limping before departing the training field.
  4. Real Madrid subsequently confirmed that medical examinations had identified damage to the collateral ligament in his right leg.
  5. The club said Konaté would leave the France camp and return to Madrid for treatment and monitoring by its medical department.

Madrid await the defender’s progress

Real Madrid’s medical update stated that Konaté had been diagnosed with a right collateral ligament injury and that his condition would be monitored as it develops.

The eventual length of his absence will depend on the severity of the problem. Recoveries from this kind of ligament issue can range from two to 12 weeks, leaving both Madrid and France needing to plan without certainty over his immediate availability.

For France, the injury means upcoming international fixtures will be played without one of their familiar defenders. In the Spanish capital, the next assessments will determine whether Konaté can return within the coming weeks or faces a more extended spell away from the pitch.
