Inter’s difficult European week has brought a further problem for Cristian Chivu, with Benjamin Pavard joining Lautaro Martinez on the injury list after the defeat to Bruges in the Champions League.
The loss has added to the pressure around Inter’s disappointing opening to the Champions League phase, while Chivu must now manage another reduction in his options during an already demanding part of the season.
Pavard underwent medical examinations on Friday morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano. The tests identified discomfort in the adductors of his right thigh, although the club have not yet set a timeframe for his return.
The French defender’s absence follows the news on Lautaro, who is not expected to return until after the November international break. Their setbacks come after injuries already suffered by Stones and Jones, leaving Chivu with several significant absences to consider.
A squad tested after Bruges setback
Inter’s defeat in Bruges was damaging in itself, but the injury situation has made the aftermath more complicated. The coach now faces the task of keeping the domestic campaign on course while restoring confidence in Europe and adapting without important players at both ends of the pitch.
With Pavard’s recovery period still uncertain, the next updates from the medical staff will carry particular weight. For the moment, Inter’s season has entered a difficult chapter: a Champions League response is required, but the immediate concern is simply getting Chivu’s squad back to strength.
