Across the European window, Jadon Sancho’s next stop remains uncertain. The 26-year-old England winger is without a club after Manchester United allowed his contract to expire in July, ending a spell that had begun with an €85 million move from Borussia Dortmund.
There was a brief possibility of a route east, to Krasnodar, the current leaders in Russia. Sancho was put forward to the club as a potential short-term signing, a deal that would have allowed him to keep playing while searching for a longer-term home. Krasnodar, however, declined the opportunity.
The proposal reportedly caught the Russian club’s hierarchy by surprise. With the transfer deadline close and little time to assess or complete a move, Krasnodar chose not to proceed. The decision leaves Sancho still waiting for the club that can offer him both a contract and a chance to rebuild momentum.
A return to Dortmund is not on the agenda
Dortmund, where Sancho became one of Europe’s most sought-after young forwards, are not considering bringing him back despite their recent departures in attack, including Karim Adeyemi. His earlier success in the Ruhr remains part of his story, but it has not created an immediate path back to Signal Iduna Park.
Sancho’s later years have been less certain. Loan spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa did not restore the influence he once carried in Germany, and neither led to a permanent fresh start before his Manchester United exit this summer.
For now, the player who once appeared destined to be a central figure for England and for elite European clubs is in the unusual position of looking for a new address after the season has already begun. From Manchester to Dortmund, and now perhaps beyond the familiar routes of the continent’s leading leagues, his next decision will shape whether he can recover the form that first made him one of the game’s most prized wide players.
